Schools teach our children everything from how to get a job to how to maintain a home but the one area they come up short is teaching them how to manage money. This is probably one of the most important things they can learn to ensure their success as adults.
It is imperative for children to learn the importance of saving money and smart spending at a very early age. By understanding this they will be better prepared when they get older and begin earning money of their own.
One way to help your child early on is by giving them a weekly allowance. But it doesn’t stop there. Teach them to keep their spending within their budget.
For example, if their allowance is $20 a week and they want to purchase something that costs $25 instead of giving them that extra money teach them that by saving that money they will able to get the things that they want.
It’s important as parents that we don’t give our children everything they want. By teaching them the importance of earning and saving their money we prepare them for the adult world thus giving them a sense of pride when they are able to get those things for themselves.
